Hi, and welcome to Outpost 422. This service provides documentary about a journey from total hopelessness to graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater as a convergent media specialist in the field of investigative journalism.

The journey began at Madison College in 2017. Then, by 2020, the WordPress website launched as a final project for the Social Media Writing course, then developed into an investigative whistleblower reporting outpost during the phase of national lockdown from Covid-19. The brand was then registered through the United States Patent and Trademark Office in 2022, and the rest is history.

This service provides in-depth on-the-scene reflective variable examination of the barriers career student veterans face who while attending college become “Totally Disability Individual Unemployability” or “TDIU” for short. This website has tracked Bradley J. Burt’s journey from working as a bricklayer, papermaker, and apprentice millwright to receiving a waiver to enroll in the Madison College University Transfer program, then developing remote journalism storytelling for Burt’s independent study referenced as “convergent media.” The website dissects each obstacle Burt faces and shares the pitfalls Burt faces as a nontraditional career student veteran who started out gainfully employable and can no longer work after two employers terminated Burt in bad faith.

Luckily, the American Legion came to Burt’s rescue during the month of December 2025, when Burt faced a letter from the Dept. of Veterans Affairs Compensation and Pension Division that Burt’s TDIU was on notice resulting from Burt’s employer’s failure to engage in good faith dialogue when Burt requested a limited schedule and made clear upon contingency of an accepted offer could not work more than 10 shifts per month no longer than five hours. Now, Burt will face off against the employer during an appeal with the Wisconsin Equal Rights Tribunal as a pro se litigant. Burt represents the systemic failures VA patients face who work for corporate employers. Outpost 422 is the space where Burt shares his experience in the trenches of gonzo journalism, Burt’s chosen journalism field.
